At Listen to Our Future Inc., we believe access to resources should never determine a student’s ability to succeed. We are excited to start off 2026 by opening our Resource Library, a new, community-powered initiative designed to support students at any point during the school year, not just during back-to-school season.

The Resource Library was created to ensure students and families have access to essential learning tools when they need them most. From backpacks and notebooks to books students can read at home, this space exists to remove barriers to access in a experenital way.

Why the Resource Library Matters

When Lillian Barkes, co-founder of LTOF, was teaching in the classroom, she saw firsthand how gaps in access impacted students’ learning experiences. Homework assignments like reading logs became a challenge when students didn’t have books at home. Many children would come to school without supplies, and materials had to be replaced often. Over time, it became clear that providing high-quality instruction must go hand-in-hand with ensuring students have the materials to engage fully.

The Resource Library is rooted in that understanding. It allows students to select items they are excited about—turning what could feel like a moment of need into a fun experience.

Who the Library Serves

The Resource Library supports:

  • Students enrolled in LTOF programs

  • Students referred by trusted partners, including schools, afterschool programs, and community organizations. LTOF has developed over 40 partnerships since 2020.

This system allows support to reach students quickly, without unnecessary paperwork or stigma, while relying on the trusted relationships already built within the community.

A Community-Built Effort

Everything in our Resource Library reflects the power of collective care. The supplies, books, and materials have been donated by community members and partners who believe in investing in young people. Even the bookshelves were secured through generous community support, reminding us that sustainable impact is built together. A special thank you to the Indianapolis Colts, Indianapolis Public Schools, and Indy Book Project for helping us create this resource.

Looking Ahead

The opening of the Resource Library marks another step in our ongoing commitment to addressing educational inequities through community-driven solutions. When students have what they need, academically and creatively, they are better positioned to learn, grow, and imagine their futures.

We’re grateful to everyone who has contributed time, resources, and care to make this space possible. Together, we are building a system where support is available year-round—and where every student feels seen, supported, and has the tools to be ready to learn.
